چکیده

Multi-dimensional and multi-variable heterogeneous petrophysical reservoir models were constructed based on stochastic analysis of well logs. With a full wave form visco-elastic finite difference modeling software, a numerical experiment (cross borehole survey) was conducted to study the impact of Pand S-wave scattering, wave mode conversion, leaky mode mechanism and their integration on the apparent energy loss observed in the various field data. The analysis on the synthetic seismic data from pure elastic models indicates that in a heterogeneous situation both scattering and leaky mode mechanisms contribute to the observed apparent energy loss. The scattering mechanism due to small scale heterogeneity cannot be ruled out when studying the attenuation observed in the field data. In regions with locally continuous large scale heterogeneities, scattering attenuation may become less severe, and the leaky mode mechanism plays the leading role in the apparent energy loss.

Reservoir permeability from seismic attribute analysis

In case of porous fluid-saturated medium the Biot’s poroelasticity theory predicts a movement of the pore fluid relative to the skeleton on seismic wave propagation through the medium. This phenomenon opens an opportunity for investigation of the flow properties of the hydrocarbon-saturated reservoirs. It is well known that relative fluid movement becomes negligible at seismic frequencies if po...

On the estimation of attenuation from the ambient seismic field: inferences from distributions of isotropic point scatterers

S U M M A R Y Cross-correlation of ambient seismic noise recorded by two seismic stations may result in an estimate of the Green’s function between those two receivers. Several authors have recently attempted to measure attenuation based on these interferometric, receiver–receiver surface waves. By now, however, it is well established that the loss of coherence of the crosscorrelation as a func...

Scattering Characteristics in Heterogeneous Fractured Reservoirs from Waveform Estimation

Offset-dependent characteristics of seismic scattering are useful in the interpretation of fractured reservoirs. Synthetic seismograms generated by a 3-D finite difference modeling are used to study elastic wave propagation and scattering in heterogeneous fraetmed reservoirs. We use two models having different background medium properties and different azimuthal AVO responses and build heteroge...

A Finite-difference Simulation of Wave Propagation in Two-dimensional Random Media by Arthur Frankel* and Robert

A finite-difference algorithm is used to generate synthetic seismograms for waves propagating through two-dimensional random media. The media have a significant component of their material properties varying randomly over length scales smaller than the seismic wavelength and are meant to approximate the heterogeneity of the crust and upper mantle. The finite-difference technique retains all mul...

Vibrational modes of hydraulic fractures: Inference of fracture geometry from resonant frequencies and attenuation

Oscillatory seismic signals arising from resonant vibrations of hydraulic fractures are observed in many geologic systems, including volcanoes, glaciers and ice sheets, and hydrocarbon and geothermal reservoirs. To better quantify the physical dimensions of fluid-filled cracks and properties of the fluids within them, we study wave motion along a thin hydraulic fracture waveguide. We present a ...
